What Is The Purpose Of Fasting?


Fasting is one of the holy month of worship in Islam. In Muslim society it is necessary to make an intention before fasting. Niyat means a desire or promise latent within the mind.

For example: "I intend to fast today before Sehri for the sake of Allah." This can be an example of the intention of fasting.


This intention is usually translated into Bengali: "I intend to fast for the sake of Allah by eating the morning meal, reciting the Qur'an and facing the Qibla."

The Intention Of Fasting.

After eating Sehri, you must intend to fast. Arabic Intentions for Fasting: نَوَيْتُ اَنْ اُصُوْمَ غَدًا مِّنْ شَهْرِ رَمْضَانَ الْمُبَارَكِ فَرْضَا لَكَ يَا اللهُ فَتَقَبَّل مِنِّى اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ السَّمِيْعُ الْعَلِيْم

Its Bengali pronunciation: Nawaitu An Achuma Ghadam Ming Shahri Ramadwanal Mubarki Fardballaka Ya Allahu Fatakbabbal Minni Innaka Angtas Samiul Aleem.

Iftar Prayer.

Before Iftar, one must recite this Dua in front of Iftar:  بسم الله اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ صُمْتُ وَ عَلَى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ

Its Bengali pronunciation: Allahumma Laka Chumtu Wa Ala Rizqika Wa Aftartu Birahmatika Ya Arhamar Rahimin.


The month of Ramadan is the ninth month of the Hijri month in the Islamic calendar and is a holy month for the Muslim community. 

During this month the Muslim community fasts from the morning presence and prays and expresses faith in Allah throughout the day. Some advices Muslims should keep in mind during the month of Ramadan are the following:

Suhoori should be done from morning presence to stay in healthy mental and physical condition. It provides strength for fasting and increases energy to function throughout the day.

No physical exertion of any kind can be done during fasting without general necessity.

Prayer and Tafseer should be performed in the morning, noon and night during the month of Ramadan.

Charity should be given in the month of Ramadan. Muslim society,
